Guide Review - 'Baby Mama' DVD Review
The StorySingle businesswoman Kate Holbrook (Fey) can barely turn around without bumping into a baby, which only serves to escalate her desire to have one for herself before time runs out. When it appears as though actually giving birth isn't in her future, Kate turns to a surrogacy agency for help. The prospective surrogate mom, Angie (Poehler), is the polar opposite of Kate in every way possible, however Kate's desperate enough that she's willing to overlook any differences.
But taking Angie into her home after the now pregnant woman leaves her boyfriend (Shepard) proves to be just as difficult and disruptive as actually having a toddler invade her orderly home. Yet even while they argue over everything, from dietary needs to the disposal of chewing gum, they work their way toward being a family.
The Bonus Features
The commentary track on the Baby Mama DVD is almost as entertaining as the feature film. Fey, Poehler, McCullers, and producer Lorne Michaels provide free-flowing, often hilarious insight into the making of the film. Definitely give it a listen - it's worth the time.
The rest of the bonus material is pretty much standard fare. There's an alternate ending that's nowhere near as funny as the film's final scene. The DVD also contains 6 so-so deleted scenes, a Making Of featurette with cast interviews, and a background piece on Fey, Poehler, McCullers, and Michaels' SNL ties.
