Jon Stewart hosted the 80th Annual Academy Awards (his second year in a row) and started off the night mixing jokes about the writers strike, politics, and, of course, the nominees. After his opening monologue, Stewart helped moved the show along fairly quickly with short, and mostly funny, bits between presenters.
The night's big winner turned out to be No Country for Old Men which had gone into Oscar week heavily favored. Daniel Day-Lewis was also an early favorite to capture the Best Actor title, and he did win for his role in There Will Be Blood. Other films feeling love from the Academy included The Bourne Ultimatum and La Vie en Rose.
