The National Board of Review is one of the oldest movie-related organizations to hand out annual awards recognizing the best in cinema. NBR has been around over 95 years and is dedicated to supporting film as both art and entertainment. According to the non-profit group's official mission statement, the NBR is comprised of film professionals, educators, students, and historians and doesn't have any commercial ties to the motion picture industry.

Last year's big winner was the dramatic film Good Night, and Good Luck written, directed, and starring George Clooney. This year the group's top prize went to another historical drama, the Clint Eastwood movie Letters from Iwo Jima.
