The Golden Globes is one of the few major award shows where the actors and others get to sit around eating, drinking and generally having a good time socializing. It's also one of the more accurate barometers for predicting which film will walk away with the most Oscars. Last year's big Golden Globe winner was the romantic drama, Brokeback Mountain, which earned four Globes and went on to snag eight Academy Award nominations (losing out on the Best Picture Oscar to Crash).

If the Oscars follow the same path as the Golden Globes this year, then Babel and Dreamgirls will be battling it out for the top Oscar honor - Best Film. And with his Golden Globe win for Best Director, Martin Scorsese's odds of finally picking up an Academy Award greatly improved.
