The Best Documentary Film Race Narrows Down to 15 Potential Nominees

"Penguins" March On in Their Quest for an Academy Award

On November 15, 2005 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the list of films eligible to be considered for the Best Documentary Feature at the 78th Academy Awards.

Members of the Documentary Branch Screening Committee chose the 15 films after a round of screenings. The following 15 films made the cut, down from 82 that had been ruled eligible to enter the race. Only these 15 films will be considered when the Academy decides on the final list of documentary films it will nominate for the Oscar.

"The Devil and Daniel Johnston"

"Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room"

"Favela Rising"

"Mad Hot Ballroom"

"March of the Penguins"

"Murderball"

"Occupation: Dreamland"

"On Native Soil: The Documentary of the 9/11 Commission Report"

"Rize"

"Street Fight"

"39 Pounds of Love"

"Unknown White Male"
