Unlike other annual awards, the American Film Institute claims they're the only organization to honor the creative team as a whole - those in front of the camera as well as those behind the scenes - with their yearly awards. This year's panel of judges included Leonard Maltin (Entertainment Tonight), Jeanine Basinger (Wesleyan University), Mary Corey (University of California, Los Angeles), Mark Harris (Entertainment Weekly), Jim Hosney (American Film Institute), Rick Jewell (University of Southern California), Elvis Mitchell (The Treatment), Daniel Petrie, Jr (Writer/Producer/Director), Tom Pollock (Producer), Richard Schickel (Time), Vivian Sobchack (University of California, Los Angeles), Anne Thompson (Variety), and Robert Towne (Writer/Producer/Director).
