Guide Review - A Mighty Heart DVD Review
The tragic story of murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl (Futterman) unfurls onscreen in A Mighty Heart. The film traces Daniel and Mariane Pearl's activities immediately prior to Daniel being abducted and taken hostage by terrorists in Karachi, Pakistan, through to his tragic death.
Mariane (Jolie), pregnant with the couple's first child, becomes suspicious when Daniel doesn't return from a meeting. Working hand in hand with the authorities, friends, an American agent (played by Will Patton), and Wall Street Journal coworkers, Mariane uses every resource available to try and find out who took her husband and to try and get him back safely. Despite their efforts, Daniel Pearl doesn't survive the kidnapping.
Incredibly moving, A Mighty Heart allows viewers an intimate look at the shocking events surrounding Pearl's horrific murder.
The Bonus Features
A commentary track would have elevated this DVD from rental status to must own. But unfortunately there isn't a commentary track or any deleted scenes included on the A Mighty Heart DVD. What the disc does include is an extensive 'Making Of' featurette which provides insights into how all those involved with the film dedicated themselves to making sure they honored Daniel Pearl's memory as best as they could with a quality film about his life. Also included on the DVD are two short featurettes on journalists.
