At what point during filming were you able to forget about the codpiece and cape and just get into the physicality of King Leonidas?
“It’s something I try and get rid of as early as possible, except to the extent that I allow it to empower me. To put on that cape and to wear the armor and hold that shield; and I wear it as much as possible well before we start filming so I can make it part of me.”

You wore it around when you weren’t filming?
“Yeah, just around the set. Sometimes I’ll even take it home and wear it around there. With this I took my sword, spear and shield home, but I didn’t use my cape so much at home (laughing), but definitely on the set as much as possible to get used to it. Then it starts to become part of you. And in fact what’s great is when you get to the phase that you wouldn’t feel comfortable acting without it. So that’s it…costumes actually for me are a huge element thing kind of creating and enforcing and being backed up in the character.”
