It was a real toss-up as to which of four films would wind up in first place on my Top 10 list, with the decision hanging in the air until the very last minute. Christopher Nolan's "Inception" is unique, thought-provoking and visually stunning, "The Fighter's" a powerful underdog story, and what "Winter's Bone" accomplished on a bare-bones...

In 2010 comedies remained popular at the box office, however this year there were more misses than hits. Check out which of this year's films actually delivered real laughs.

Action movies "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Land of the Lost" share the dubious honor of earning the most Razzie Award nominations for the 30th annual event.

With this win, Reitman's third feature film picks up even more steam as we head further into the awards season.

No clear front-runner emerged as voters spread out the nominations over 35 films. "The Last Station" and "Precious" did tie for the most nominations with five each.

"The Hurt Locker" and "Inglourious Basterds" picked up more awards steam with two California critics' groups throwing their support behind the two war-based films. San Diego film critics gave "Inglourious Basterds" six awards including the Best Film honors.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists (AWFJ) has revealed their choices for the best in films of 2009. "The Hurt Locker" and its director, Kathryn Bigelow, were this year's big winners, netting six awards for her work on the dramatic film about a team of bomb disposal experts deployed in Iraq.

"The Hurt Locker" continues on its award-winning way as the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) joins the chorus in voting the timely drama best film of 2009. "District 9," the sleeper hit of the summer, also earned two of the group's awards, picking up wins in the New Generation and Production Design categories.

I thought for sure "9" would make the cut. It may not be the most entertaining animated film of 2009, but it's certainly one of the top 3 aesthetically speaking.

(Nov 2009) Summit Entertainment's on a roll. "New Moon" is raking in the big bucks and now Summit's "The Hurt Locker" has picked up awards for Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards.

As if handicapping Oscar's Best Picture contest wasn't hard enough already, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has added a new twist to the annual race.

My list of top 10 movies of the year is normally sort of close to the Academy's choices. I normally have two or three of the Best Picture nominees on my list of favorites. But I'll tell you what, I'm not sure that's going to hold true this year.

Studios looking to earn Oscar glory usually hold off until winter to make sure their award-worthy films are fresh in the minds of critics groups and others who vote on year-end awards.

The producers of the Golden Globes are looking to liven up the show and have tapped Ricky Gervais to play host for the 2010 awards ceremony. Hiring Gervais is a bold move by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who've gone without a host for the annual kudos-fest since 1995.

Last year's host, Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman, declined to handle the tough and time-consuming job of hosting the Academy Awards two years running, and Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr also passed on the gig, so naturally the Oscar producers asked Steve Martin and Oscar nominee Alec Baldwin ("The Cooler") to team up to tackle MC'ing duties.
