Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage will be the featured guest at the 15th annual Virginia Film Festival on Saturday night, October 26, 2002. He will introduce his directorial debut film, "Sonny," at 7:00pm and his Oscar(R)-winning performance in "Leaving Las Vegas" at 10:00pm. Immediately following the screening of "Sonny," Roger Ebert will conduct an on-stage interview with Cage. "Sonny," a Saturn Films/Gold Circle Films production, is a story of love, promise and enduring hope set against the streets of New Orleans in the 1980s, starring James Franco ("James Dean," "Spiderman"), Brenda Blethyn ("Secrets and Lies"), Harry Dean Stanton and Mena Suvari ("American Beauty").
"We are thrilled to have Nicolas Cage attend the Virginia Film Festival and unveil his talents as a filmmaker. His unforgettable performance in 'Leaving Las Vegas' as a man determined to drink himself to death adds another dimension to our Festival's 2002 theme, which is WET," noted Artistic Director Richard Herskowitz. Based at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, the Virginia Film Festival designs its program to resemble a huge, comprehensive course on a cultural theme.
