GLENDALE, Calif., Aug. 2, 2004 - DreamWorks Pictures' computer-animated comedy "Shrek 2" passed "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace" to become the fourth highest grossing film of all time, it was announced by DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp. The film crossed the $431.1 million mark on Thursday, July 29, and has, to date, grossed more than $432.4 million domestically.
"Shrek 2" stars the voices of Mike Myers as Shrek; Eddie Murphy as Donkey; Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona; Julie Andrews and John Cleese as Fiona's royal parents, Queen Lillian and King Harold; Antonio Banderas as Puss In Boots; Rupert Everett as Prince Charming; and Jennifer Saunders as the Fairy Godmother.
The computer-animated comedy was directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon, with Aron Warner, David Lipman and John H. Williams producing, and Jeffrey Katzenberg executive producing. Adamson and Joe Stillman and J. David Stem & David N. Weiss wrote the screenplay from a story by Adamson, based upon the book by William Steig.
