Filming has begun on Revolution Studios' "Radio," a drama directed by Academy Award nominee Mike Tollin (documentary feature film "Chasing the Dream") and starring Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. and three-time Academy Award nominee Ed Harris, it was announced today by Revolution Studios' Partner Todd Garner. Tollin and Brian Robbins are producing the film for Revolution Studios for fall 2003 release by Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia Pictures banner.

Inspired by actual events, Radio is the story about how a mentoring relationship between a prominent high school football coach (Ed Harris) and a mentally challenged man nicknamed "Radio" (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) at first divides, but ultimately transforms and unifies a small South Carolina town.

The screenplay is by Mike Rich, the writer of "Finding Forrester" and "The Rookie." Herb Gains ("Orange County," "Varsity Blues," "Summer Catch," "Hardball") serves as executive producer and the director of photography is Don Burgess ("Forest Gump," "Spiderman," "Cast Away"). Filming will take place in and around Walterboro, SC.

"We are delighted to be working on this project with Mike Tollin, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ed Harris," said Revolution Studios' Garner. "This is a film about following your dreams and defying your limitations."

Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Radio") won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for "Jerry Maguire." Other credits include "Men of Honor," "As Good As it Gets," "Pearl Harbor," "Rat Race," "What Dreams May Come," "Snow Dogs," "Losing Isaiah," "Boyz N the Hood" and "A Few Good Men." Upcoming releases include "Boat Trip" and "The Fighting Temptations."

Ed Harris ("Coach Harold Jones") received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for "Pollock," which he also directed and produced. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for both "Apollo 13" and "The Truman Show," for which he also won a Golden Globe Award. His upcoming films include "The Hours," with Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore and "The Human Stain" with Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman. Other credits include "A Beautiful Mind," "Enemy at the Gates," "The Rock," "Just Cause," "The Right Stuff," "Sweet Dreams," "Places in the Heart," "Nixon" and "Glengary Glen Ross."

The cast also includes three-time Academy Award nominee Debra Winger (for "Shadowlands," "Terms of Endearment," and "An Officer and a Gentleman"). Winger will play Linda Jones, the wife of football coach Harold Jones, played by Harris. She most recently appeared in the documentary "Searching for Debra Winger." Her other credits include "Forget Paris," "Leap of Faith," "The Sheltering Sky," and "Urban Cowboy."

Alfre Woodard plays the principal at the local high school. Woodard was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in "Cross Creek," and has won three Emmy Awards for her roles in "Miss Evers' Boys," "L.A. Law," and "Hill Street Blues." She most recently starred with Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges in "K-Pax." Woodard has also appeared in "Love & Basketball," "Down in the Delta," "Primal Fear," "How to Make an American Quilt," and "Grand Canyon."

Rounding out the cast is S. Epatha Merkerson (Lieutenant Van Buren on NBC's "Law and Order") as "Maggie," the mother of "Radio" (Cuba Gooding Jr.).

Tollin/Robbins Productions is currently one of the most prolific production companies in film and television. Robbins is directing the Paramount feature film "The Perfect Score," which recently completed principal photography, and also directed Paramount/MTV's "Varsity Blues" and Paramount's "Hardball." Tollin directed the Warner Bros. feature "Summer Catch" and received an Academy Award nomination for his documentary "Chasing The Dream," for which he also received a Peabody Award.
