Revolution Studios' "'Punch-Drunk Love"' set records this weekend in limited release, grossing a total of $367,203 on five screens in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto for an astounding $73,441 per screen. The per-screen average is a new record for a film opening in more than two theaters (with the exception of the El Capitan Theater which has premium ticket prices). The record beats those held by both "American Beauty" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" in their limited releases.

"Punch-Drunk Love" will expand to 78 screens on October 18th and will further expand on October 25th and November 1st.

"This is a fantastic opening for a limited-release weekend, and the amazing per-screen average indicates that audiences are very excited to see 'Punch-Drunk Love,'" said Revolution Studios' Tom Sherak. "We are proud to be working with such a visionary writer and director as Paul Thomas Anderson who has brought audiences a totally original film, and the unique and versatile Adam Sandler whose work in this film and the upcoming 'Anger Management' is extraordinary. We are in the enviable position that 'American Beauty' was in three years ago; an excellent platform and plenty of room to expand."

Terry Curtin, Revolution Studios' Head of Marketing and Distribution added, "We are so proud of this launch. This film has been given such a great kick-start from the Cannes, Toronto and New York film festivals, as well as from the overwhelmingly unanimous critical response. We look forward to expanding the release over the next few weeks and bringing it to mainstream audiences where we are certain it will do very well."

"Punch-Drunk Love," which debuted in Cannes to critical acclaim and garnered the Director's Award for Anderson, stars Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Luis Guzman. The story centers on Barry Egan (Sandler), a small business owner with seven sisters whose abuse has kept him alone and unable to fall in love. When a harmonium and a mysterious woman (Emily Watson) enter his life, his romantic journey begins. "Punch-Drunk Love" is written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film made its North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival and was the Centerpiece film in the New York Film Festival.

Revolution Studios, who began the year with two Academy Awards for "Black Hawk Down," recently released the summer blockbuster "XXX" which is approaching the $300 million worldwide mark. The studio will follow the release of "Punch-Drunk Love" with the romantic comedy "Maid in Manhattan" starring Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes and directed by Wayne Wang on December 13th. In 2003 Revolution Studios will release 10 films starring such notable talent as Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Harrison Ford, Josh Hartnett, Adam Sandler, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ed Harris.
