"Out Cold"
on DVD
Guide Rating -
Pros • X-sport fanatics should appreciate the stunts
• Fast moving film is backed by a hot soundtrack
• Entertaining collection of bonus features
Cons • Little impact at the box office will probably translate to people shying away from giving the film a chance, which is really too bad - it has its moments.
The Bottom Line - I missed this film at the theatre and, being a fan of goofball romantic comedies, decided to check it out on DVD. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the number of times I laughed. This one's worth checking out for its humor and its killer snowboarding scenes.

Guide Review
"Out Cold" DVD Review/Recommendation
Snowboarding buddies Rick (Jason London), Luke (Zach Galifianakis), Anthony (Flex Alexander) and Pig Pen (Derek Hamilton) live to catch air and party on Alaska's Bull Mountain. Their sleepy little existence is shaken up when the town founder, Papa Muntz, dies and his son decides to sell the mountain to big-time ski developer, Jack Majors (Lee Majors).

Rick has many battles to fight as the leader of the rag-tag pack. While getting over a broken heart, he's also pursuing the town cutie, Jenny (A.J. Cook). Rick has to decide whether to stand up to the developer who plans to ruin their little piece of heaven, and he has to choose between Jenny and his old flame, Anna (Caroline Dhavernas), who just so happens to be Majors' daughter.

The film features stunts by real-life snowboarding champions, Todd Richards, Rio Tahara, Tara Dakides, Devun Walsh and Rob 'Sluggo' Boyce. In between the snowboarding scenes, the story flows fairly smoothly via a young cast of attractive actors. "Out Cold" is not in the same league as Warren Miller's skiing films, but it doesn't try to be. It doesn't take itself seriously and succeeds in providing a few laughs mixed with amazing snowboarding stunts.
