"An American in Paris" - Soundtrack Recommendation:
The film won a well-deserved eight Academy Awards, including Best Score, when it was released in 1951. This soundtrack features an incredible amount of material that was - unfortunately - never included in the movie, as well as 21 outtakes. George Gershwin fans will enjoy listening to, and appreciate, the 30 minutes of unreleased material that was recorded for the film, but never included in the finished product. Turner/Rhino Record's issue of the original soundtrack is the only complete soundtrack CD that contains all of Gershwin's work on "An American in Paris." According to Rhino Records, previous soundtrack albums have included abbreviated versions of songs, some of which were ruined by sound effects and dialogue overriding the music.
