Maggie Gyllenhaal today earned a Golden Globe nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for Best Actress-Comedy or Musical for her daring performance in Lions Gate's hit comedy "Secretary."
The Golden Globe nod follows Gyllenhaal's Best Actress recognition from the Boston Film Critics last Sunday, Best Breakthrough Performance citation from the National Board of Review and an Independent Spirit Award nomination in addition to rave reviews from film critics nationwide.
"We are proud that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has honored Maggie for her powerful and courageous performance in 'Secretary,'" said Tom Ortenberg, President of Lions Gate Films Releasing. "Her Golden Globe nomination reaffirms our commitment to bold and daring roles for cutting edge young talent and shows that critics will reward actresses gutsy enough to take the creative chances that Maggie does in 'Secretary.'"
Gyllenhaal's Golden Globe nomination continues Lions Gate's tradition of recognition for its powerful female leading roles. Halle Berry earned a landmark Best Actress Academy Award for Lions Gate's hit "Monster's Ball" last year.
