Filming has begun on Revolution Studios' "Hollywood Homicide," an action-comedy directed by Ron Shelton and starring Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett, it was announced today by Revolution Studios Partner Todd Garner. Lou Pitt and Ron Shelton are producing the film for Revolution Studios, which will be distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia Pictures banner on August 1, 2003.

Ron Shelton, the writer and director of "Bull Durham" and "White Men Can't Jump," now brings audiences a gritty action-comedy starring Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett as unconventional L.A. homicide detectives. Joe Gavilan (Ford) is the seasoned veteran charged with showing K.C. Calden (Hartnett) the ropes while investigating the gangland style murder of a rap group.

Shelton co-wrote the screenplay with Robert Souza, who was an L.A.P.D. detective for 25 years. David Lester serves as executive producer. Souza and Allegra Clegg are co-producers.

"I am thrilled to be working with Ron again," said Revolution Studios' founder Joe Roth, who first collaborated with Shelton in 1992 on "White Men Can't Jump." "Ron has an amazing ability to make ordinary characters in everyday situations both memorable and relatable."

Adds Revolution Studios partner Garner: "I have tremendous respect for Ron's creativity and have always wanted to work with him. The combination of Ron and stars Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett makes for a compelling and exciting project."

Harrison Ford, one of the most successful actors in Hollywood history, starred in the popular "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" trilogies and received an Academy Award nomination for Peter Weir's drama "Witness." Josh Hartnett has become an international star following his compelling performances in "Pearl Harbor" and "Black Hawk Down."

Filmmaker Ron Shelton earned an Academy Award nomination for "Bull Durham," his debut as a feature film writer-director. Other motion pictures created by Shelton include "White Men Can't Jump," "Blaze," "Cobb," "Tin Cup" and "Play It To The Bone." Like "Hollywood Homicide," his forthcoming "Dark Blue" is also set in the world of the Los Angeles Police Department.

After a long career as a top talent agent, producer Lou Pitt recently produced the soon-to-be-seen "Carolina" starring Julia Stiles and Shirley MacLaine. "Hollywood Homicide" marks Executive Producer David Lester's seventh motion picture with Ron Shelton. His other credits include "Air Force One" and "The Shawshank Redemption."

"Hollywood Homicide" will be filmed entirely in the Los Angeles area, at such locations as the rarely filmed Venice canals, Grauman's Chinese Theater, Geoffrey's restaurant in Malibu, Parker Center (headquarters of the L.A.P.D.), Rodeo Drive, and Hollywood Boulevard.

In addition to Ford and Hartnett, the cast also of "Hollywood Homicide" features Lena Olin, Bruce Greenwood, Martin Landau, Lolita Davidovich, Dwight Yoakam, Isaiah Washington, Keith David, Lou Diamond Philips, Eric Idle and Robert Wagner. The film will also feature popular hip-hop artists Master P, Kurupt, from the group Tha Dogg Pound, and Dre, from the group Outkast. Also making an appearance is legendary singer Gladys Knight.

In addition to "Hollywood Homicide," Revolution Studios currently has three films in production, the Eddie Murphy comedy "Daddy Day Care," the Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles drama "Mona Lisa Smile," directed by Mike Newell, and, in a co-production between Universal Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios comes the live action fantasy "Peter Pan," directed by P.J. Hogan. Revolution Studios continues its impressive slate of films with the upcoming release of Paul Thomas Anderson's original and celebrated "Punch-Drunk Love" starring Adam Sandler and Emily Watson, which debuted in Cannes to critical acclaim and garnered the Director's Award for Anderson. The holiday season brings Wayne Wang's romantic comedy "Maid in Manhattan," starring Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes, which opens on December 13th. In 2003 Revolution Studios will release 10 films starring such notable talent as Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Harrison Ford, Josh Hartnett, Adam Sandler, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ed Harris.
