In "Pumpkin," perky, perfect Carolyn (Christina Ricci) and her Alpha Omega Pi sisters plan to win Sorority of the Year by impressing the Greek Council with a killer charity: coaching mentally challenged athletes for the regional Challenged Games. When Carolyn’s assigned to coach Pumpkin (Hank Harris) she’s terrified at first, but soon sees in him something she’s never seen before: a gentle humanity and honest clarity that touches her soul. To the horror of her friends and Pumpkin’s overprotective mother (Brenda Blethyn), Carolyn falls in love, becoming an outcast in the process. As Carolyn’s 'perfect life' falls apart, Pumpkin teaches her that perfect isn’t always perfect after all.

Hank Harris talked briefly about his role in the unusual romantic comedy, "Pumpkin," while at the Premiere of "National Lampoon's Van Wilder."

HANK HARRIS (Pumpkin):

Can you describe your role in "Pumpkin?"
"Pumpkin" is a story of a physically and mentally challenged boy in a wheelchair who finds himself falling in love with Christina Ricci's character, and her falling in love with him. It's about the special relationship between them. "Pumpkin" is a dark comedy. Her (Christina Ricci as Carolyn) life sort of unravels as she actually realizes that she's falling in love with this boy and all of her friends dessert her.

This is not a relationship that was supposed to happen?
No, definitely not. We have to question everything about our lives.

What was it like working with Christina Ricci?
It was great. She's very professional; she's been working since she was 9 or 10 so she's really got it down. She taught me a lot about being able to get into character and then be able to drop the character as soon as you need to go to lunch or whatever.

When is "Pumpkin" going to be released?
June 28, 2002 - I believe that's the release date. I'm really looking forward to that coming out.
