Miramax Films and Interscope Records are proud to announce that "The Hands that Built America," a new track written specifically by U2 for "Gangs of New York" received a Golden Globe nomination in the category of Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. "Gangs of New York" opened nationwide on December 20, 2002.

"The surprise was to be able to move from 1846 to 2001 in one song," said Bono. "Thanks to Marty's spectacular time-lapse in the ending of 'Gangs,' we could do that and stay true to the faces of the past and the present ... faces familiar to our own, the Irish in America."

"This is a great honor," said U2's manager Paul McGuinness. "It's great to be associated with such a wonderful film."

"Gangs of New York" received a total of five nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Director for Martin Scorsese, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Daniel Day-Lewis, Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Cameron Diaz, and Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.

"Gangs of New York," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz and Liam Neeson, is a Martin Scorsese Film and an Alberto Grimaldi Production, which is directed by Scorsese.

The soundtrack album, which features Peter Gabriel, and music by Howard Shore, in addition to "The Hands that Built America," is available in stores now.
