"Mr. Deeds" on DVD
"Mr. Deeds" Special Edition DVD

Guide Rating -

Based on the Academy Award-winning Frank Capra film, "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town," this version gives us Adam Sandler in a role originally played by Gary Cooper.

In this 2002 take on the 1936 story, Longfellow Deeds is a small-town pizzeria owner/greeting card writer whose life is turned upside-down when he finds out he's inherited billions of dollars from a recently deceased relative he never knew existed. While only a private helicopter ride away, the friendly small-town life in Mandrake Falls seems millions of miles away from his new life in New York.

Deeds is put to the test when two of his dead relative's business associates conspire against him. He must overcome their greed and his own gullibility, and prove he's still the same man he was before gaining the astronomical inheritance.

*********

In "Mr. Deeds," Adam Sandler moves into a more grown-up realm of comedy while maintaining the affable 'every man' style that's he's done well by up to this point in his career. The only slight misfire in the film is the chemistry between Winona Ryder and Sandler, however it's easy to dismiss that shortcoming because of the delightful chemistry between the rest of the cast.
