Baz Luhrmann's romantic musical "Moulin Rouge" is an eye-catching extravaganza with an equally amazing soundtrack. The film mixes wild colors, flashy dance numbers, vibrant costumes - and Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor - with tunes that aren't equated with the bohemian lifestyle of 19th century Paris, and does so without stumbling. Kidman and McGregor have to be given a lot of credit for daring to let themselves go crazy, and for singing their hearts out. Surprisingly, neither is a slouch in the vocal department, and their contributions to the soundtrack hold up better than expected against the likes of Beck, David Bowie, and Fatboy Slim. LaBelle's smash Lady Marmalade comes to life with a new rawness on this soundtrack. Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya, and Lil' Kim team up for the "Moulin Rouge" version of the song, and this Lady Marmalade reverberates with an added sexuality. Song List: |
