Principal photography began on July 31, 2002 on DreamWorks Pictures' actioner "Biker Boyz," starring Academy Award(R) nominee Laurence Fishburne ("What's Love Got To Do With It," "The Matrix"). The film marks the first major studio feature to be directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood, whose film debut, "Dancing in September," was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival and premiered on HBO last year.

Based on a New Times Magazine article of the same name, penned by Michael Gougis, "Biker Boyz" is an action-packed contemporary Western on wheels with desperados who live every day on the edge. Lawyers and city workers by day, they take to the streets in their leathers to race by night.

Set in the world of underground motorcycle clubs, the action centers on the undefeated motorcycle racer called Smoke (Laurence Fishburne) whose dominance of the set has earned him the title of "King of Cali." Derek Luke, who made his acting debut in the title role of the upcoming "The Antwone Fisher Story," stars with Fishburne in the role of a young motorcycle racing prodigy, called Kid.

The film also stars Kid Rock ("Joe Dirt"), Orlando Jones ("The Time Machine"), Djimon Hounsou ("Gladiator," "Amistad"), Lisa Bonet ("Enemy of the State"), Brendan Fehr ("Final Destination"), Larenz Tate ("Love Jones"), Meagan Goode ("Eve's Bayou"), Terence Howard ("Hart's War," "The Best Man"), Vanessa Bell Calloway ("The Brothers"), Salli Richardson ("Family Law"), Melissa DeSousa ("The Best Man"), Kadeem Hardison ("Showtime"), Tyson Beckford ("Zoolander").

"Biker Boyz" is being produced by Stephanie Allain and Gina Prince-Bythewood, along with Erwin Stoff from 3 Arts Entertainment. Don Kurt is executive producing, with Paul Garnes, Tammy Garnes and Roee Sharon Peled serving as associate producers. The screenplay is by C. Fernandez and Reggie Rock Bythewood, the latter of whose credits as a screenwriter include Spike Lee's "Get On The Bus."

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Greg Gardiner ("Men In Black II"), production designer Cecilia Montiel ("The Mexican," "The Mask of Zorro"), editor Terilyn Shropshire ("Love & Basketball"), and costume designer Rita McGhee, designing her first major feature film.

"Biker Boyz" will film entirely in and around Los Angeles into the fall, and is slated for release in 2003.
