GEORGE S. CLINTON - Composer
What was it like working on "Joe Somebody?"
It was a lot of fun. The director John Pasquin is a director who really enjoys music and knows how music can really help a film. He gave me a lot of freedom to try a lot of different things, use a lot of strange instruments together like the slide guitar, Indian Tabla drums, African shakers, pan flute - all these strange instruments coming together to form a "Joe Somebody" orchestra.
How long did they give you to work on this film?
Actually I had about five weeks this time, which is good. That's a week longer than I usually get.
Is it different scoring for a comedy as opposed to a romance, or action/adventure film?
It is because, in a comedy, you have everything. You have the comedic aspect of it but there's also an action scene that takes place in a Target store where there are dueling shopping carts. You have to play that as if it were "Ben Hur" - as if it were an action film. Then the romance in the film, you have to play as if it were "Sleepless in Seattle." You have to play those moments in a comedy as if the whole film were a romance or an action film.
