RACHEL BOSTON AND SARAH RAMOS ("American Dreams")

“American Dreams” takes place years before either of you were born. What did you do to help prepare yourself for this series?
SARAH RAMOS: I didn't study. I went to the auditions and then when I got it, they gave us all packets from the 60s. I read part of it but not all of it. I just learned as we were filming.

RACHEL BOSTON: I really enjoy it. I went home right before the pilot, and the executive producer Jonathan Prince sent us a packet. It was a 150 page “Welcome to 1963” packet. I read that whole [thing] and I watched movies from the 60s. Now the only thing in my car is 60s music.

Was there any particular actress you could relate to or that you drew on for this role?
RACHEL BOSTON: I watched a lot of the “Gidget” movies. What I also did was before we started shooting the series, I went home and went through all my grandmother's old magazines and pictures. I just talked to my parents and my aunts and uncles. Everyone is just so excited to be able to watch their childhood on television.

Your character is a very strong young woman in the 60s. Is she someone that a lot of people from that decade can relate to?
RACHEL BOSTON: I think more people from the year 2002 can relate. But I am strong and I love being able to play a girl that understands the change that's happening, I think, a lot more than the Pryor family is able to. I love having that opportunity. I have a lot of exciting stuff coming up.

What's it like working with your onscreen love interest, Will Estes?
RACHEL BOSTON: He's a great guy. We hit it off right away. We are pretty close friends. Tomorrow I actually have to go in just to kiss him - that's my scene (laughing). I go in and I have a make-out scene (laughing). I was looking at the schedule and I said, “This can't be right. That's so weird.”

Most of this series is dramatic, there's not a lot of comedy or action. What's the atmosphere on the set, behind-the-scenes?
RACHEL BOSTON: It's very loose. We joke around a lot. Actually Monday we were shooting and joking around and we turned around and knocked over a whole table because we were dancing. In the table reads, we are always laughing. Everything seems really funny to us. It's awesome.

Gail O'Grady and Tom Verica are the seasoned pros and I guess we're the younger crowd. We are definitely learning. I'm learning so much from them.

Is there any musical co-star coming up that you're real excited to see on the show?
RACHEL BOSTON: Usher made it on to the show. I'm from Tennessee and his grandparents live in Tennessee so growing up it was always like, “Usher made it - we can make it, too.” When I got to meet him I was like, “You made it - I can make it, too!”

You actually said that to him?
RACHEL BOSTON: I did, and he kind of looked at me like, “Okay…” and then we got our picture taken together.

Anyone else coming up that you're exciting about?
RACHEL BOSTON: Ashanti is coming up in a few weeks. She is just amazing. That'll be really fun for [the audience].
