"Bandits" tells the story of suave, irresistible Joe (Bruce Willis) and his hypochondriac partner Terry (Billy Bob Thornton) who escape from prison and cut a swath from Oregon through California. These fugitives rob banks in order to finance their scheme for a new and somewhat legitimate life south of the border, leaving a trail of terrified bankers, bad wigs and an adoring public in their wake. Unfortunately, things get more complicated when they meet Kate Wheeler (Cate Blanchett), an ordinary housewife sick of her boring life who happens to run into Terry with her car. Kate joins the bandits on their cross-country spree, and eventually she steals something, too their hearts. Both guys fall in love with Kate and Kate falls for both of them. Joe and Terry are far from ideal on their own, but together they make up the perfect man

Troy Garity co-stars as Joe and Terry's getaway driver who longs to be a stuntman. Here are his thoughts on his "Bandits" role, his co-stars and director Barry Levinson.

Let's talk about what your impression of the "Bandits" script the first time you read it.

This is the first script I've read in a long time where I've laughed out loud.

Who is your character, Pollard, and how does he get involved with the 'Sleepover Bandits?'

Pollard is the helpless romantic. He is a hero trying to come out of his shell. And he's sort of found a calling with his two idols, Joe and Terry. He's just happy to be there. I'll tell you that I based Pollard on my mother's Golden Retriever, Roxy. Sort of like a combination between the dog and Clint Eastwood. I use the dog because the dog has sort of a loyalty to his family that humans don't have, but should. Harvey's very sort of instinctual…he might not be educated, but he's got a really good, keen sense of smell. That's how he survives.

Tell me about his obsession with becoming a stunt man.

Stunt men are the facets of the stars that we fall in love with. They are heroes. They embrace pain. They took death to the dance and danced her shoes off. And that's exciting to him. That's what makes him feel alive, dancing with danger. But because he's so alone and, and his greatest wish on earth is to have somebody to love, and to be loved, he's figured out that the greatest attraction in life is a man who loves danger. A man who will be there to catch you. And a man who's willing to take the fall.

What has it been like working with this cast?

It's been a little surreal. Seeing as how it's basically my first film, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Other than the initial intimidation of, “Oh my god, look who it is.” You know, these are some of the best actors working. It's been very easy, because they're so good. It's like surfing. You sort of go until you fall off, and the director yells, “Cut.” So it's been very easy and very fun. And they've been very generous. It's shattered every sort of prejudice or idea I had about big Hollywood, or what a movie star behaves like. The other actors, all the producers, and the directors have just been so down to earth, and really willing to listen to me.

What is Barry Levinson, the director, bringing to you?

Barry brings a lot of warmth and comfort to the table. He let's you be yourself, and he let's you use your creativity, and when you're off, he tells you. But he never censors your ideas, which is beneficial. He helps you maximize your potential.
