In "Welcome to Collinwood," William H. Macy plays Riley, a frustrated artist/father who's in charge of caring for his infant son while the mother is away in prison. Riley is desperate to come up with $1,000 to spring his wife from jail and that means he needs to find a 'Bellini' - the one big score that will change his life for the better.

WILLIAM H. MACY (Riley)

Can you talk a little about the script?
It's good writing. You know, we were up in Toronto and there aren't any comedies out there. I felt so proud to be in the one film that people were just knee-slapping about.

Do you think it will go over well with audiences?
I absolutely do. I don't know what it's going to be up against but all I know is that it made me laugh.

How was it to work with this ensemble cast?
It was easy. In my opinion, they had very canny casting. It's a comedy but there aren't any funny actors, you know what I mean? No 'funny' actors. This is a serious cast and I thought everybody set the bar pretty high. Everybody was going for what the scene was about and not making a lot of cheap jokes at the expense of the script. I think it was a lot funnier for that.

This is film festival time of year. What do you think that film festivals do for independent films?
There's no way [other] to get them before the people who are buying - it's a mixer. It's lovely the way it's worked out. The public gets brought in on the thing and it's a great big mixer. It's like a huge pajama party where the buyers and the sellers get to hang out and go to parties that are too crowded, with all these pretty girls. They smoke cigarettes, drink too much, talk about movies, but they actually end up getting [films] sold.
