Columbia Records released "Serendipity" - Music From The Miramax Motion Picture to stores on October 2, 2001. The pop-alternative leaning album features brand new recordings from evan and jaron (who perform the album's first single, a newly re-recorded version of "The Distance"), Shawn Colvin, Heather Nova, Chantal Kreviazuk, Wood, John David Gray, Annie Lennox, Nick Drake, Louis Armstrong, and Brian Whitman. Directed by Peter Chelsom, "Serendipity" is the story of Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sarah (Kate Beckinsale), two perfect strangers who meet fortuitously amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday shopping crunch at Bloomingdale's department store in New York City. Experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime attraction, the pair share a promising and magical evening together in glittering Manhattan. Convinced that they belong together, Jonathan asks Sarah for her name and number, but she has a different idea. Going their separate ways, Jonathan and Sarah encounter each other in another chance meeting a few years later and discover that each is engaged. It's a tangled situation that can only be unravled by the comedic forces of fate, destiny, and "Serendipity." "Serendipity" - Music From The Miramax Motion Picture track list:
