Salma Hayek makes her directorial debut and serves as executive producer of the Showtime Original Picture "The Maldonado Miracle." The film is an Allegra Films production with the teleplay written by Paul Cooper, based on the novel by Theodore Taylor. Emmy Award winners, Eve Silverman and Susan Aronson ("A Matter of Conscience," "The Story of Mary Margaret") are the producers. Hayek recently wrapped the project at its rural Utah location.

The film stars Oscar® and Emmy®-nominee Peter Fonda ("Ulee's Gold," "Easy Rider" and SHOWTIME's "The Passion of Ayn Rand); Oscar®-nominee and Emmy®-winner Mare Winningham ("Georgia," "St. Elmo's Fire," "George Wallace") and Emmy® and Alma Award-nominee Ruben Blades ("Gideon's Crossing," "Crazy From The Heart" and the upcoming, "Once Upon A Time in Mexico").

Hayek, who has proven herself a prolific producer and actress in both film and television, most recently produced and starred in Miramax Film's "Frida," to be released in October and appears in the upcoming Robert Rodriguez film, "Once Upon A Time In Mexico." Her other credits include "Dogma," "Wild Wild West," "Fools Rush In," "Desperado," "From Dusk Till Dawn" and the Showtime Original Picture, "In The Time of The Butterflies."

With "The Maldonado Miracle," Hayek tackles the story of a small, dying town whose residents' faith is tested when a statue of Jesus seems to be bleeding real tears of blood. The windfall from the blessed event thrills the residents, but the town's priest doubts the miracle, and the truth may lie with an 11-year-old Mexican boy who has taken refuge in the church.
