"Punch-Drunk Love," the romantic comedy from director Paul Thomas Anderson ("Boogie Nights," "Magnolia") will be platform released on October 11, 2002 in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, followed by an expansion on October 18th, it was announced today by Revolution Studios.
The film, which is a Revolution Studios and New Line production distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia Pictures banner, will make its North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival this September. The film has also been awarded the prestigious honor of being the Centerpiece film in the New York Film Festival this October.
In making the announcement, Revolution Studios' Tom Sherak stated, "We are so honored to be working with such a visionary director as Paul Thomas Anderson. He is truly a unique creative voice, and with 'Punch-Drunk Love' he once again brings audiences an original and astounding work. We had such a successful bow in Cannes this year, and are proud to be bringing this film to the Toronto and New York Festivals as well. Our October release takes advantage of the launch from these festivals to bring this amazing film to the marketplace."
"Punch-Drunk Love," which debuted this May in Cannes to critical acclaim and garnered the Director's Award for Anderson, stars Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Luis Guzman. The story centers on Barry Egan (Sandler), a small business owner with seven sisters whose abuse has kept him alone and unable to fall in love. When a harmonium and a mysterious woman (Emily Watson) enter his life, his romantic journey begins. "Punch-Drunk Love" is written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
Revolution Studios, who began the year with two Academy Awards for "Black Hawk Down," recently released "XXX" to an impressive $44.5 million. The film has held the #1 box office position for the past two weekends in a row. The studio will follow the October release of "Punch-Drunk Love" with the romantic comedy "Maid in Manhattan" starring Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes and directed by Wayne Wang. Previous Articles |
