KYLE LABINE ('Freeburg')

Can you describe Freeburg?
My character is the one that is described as 'the pothead.' But he's a lot more fun than the average pothead, even though your average pothead is fun. He's a good kid, just misunderstood (laughing).

How is he similar to you?
He's similar to me because obviously you put some of yourself into a character so he's got that, but he's unlike me in that he's a pothead (laughing).

Who is your money on, Freddy or Jason?
I'm not a betting man so I'm going to refrain from betting.

How about Freddy, Jason or Chucky?
I'm thinking Chucky doesn't stand a chance; he's a doll.

What sets this movie apart from all other horror movies?
There are two titans going at it. It's like a battle of horror gods. It's beyond anything that's ever happened before. And also, I think the script was really amazing. I think it was really good. What sets this apart is that there's a little bit more to it. You're not sure what's going to happen. There's kind of a standard routine for most horror films, but now it's not one indestructible force knocking down children one after another, it's these two guys going after each other and you don't know who is going to win. It makes it interesting.

When I spoke with the director Ronny Yu, he said the teens are smarter this time around. Do you think that's true?
(Laughing) Yeah, I guess so. The kids are getting to - I'm 20 and I'm like 'the kids' - I think they are a little bit smarter. They know more about killing things.

You have one really strange scene with a worm. Can you talk about filming that scene?
I can tell you that it was a lot of fun [and] it was a little bit of a challenge. I haven't seen it yet so I'm hoping it looks good. It was a lot of fun.

What was used in place of the worm during filming?
The only way I can describe it, it looked like a three multi-nippled breast. It was incredible. It was caterpillar-like and you just held it. It was very strange.

What scares you?
Insanity.

Are you going insane?
I don't know. That's the thing about being insane, you have no idea. If you're really insane you have no concept of how insane you are. That's what scares me. Right now, I could be sitting in a chair somewhere rocking back and forth in front of a window, and I could be dreaming about being on the red carpet. It could be like a “Matrix” thing.

Was this your first horror movie?
No, actually I had a very small part in the most recent “Halloween” movie. Watch closely and you can catch me. I'm in a Halloween costume.

CHRIS MARQUETTE ('Linderman')

You play the nerdy guy.
Yes, I play the nerdy guy. I play the 'zero to hero' guy. I play the guy who is sort of an outcast. With his brains and with his intelligence and his imagination he handles himself better than most the other popular kids. He sort of earns the respect of the rest of the teenagers by being witty and intelligent.

Was this a stretch for you?
Not really. I was sort of a loser in high school for a while. I got out of high school and started doing home school and I think once I got more confidence in not trying to impress people, I think then I found my own kind of cool side. I don't consider myself cool at all, but I just found some sort of confidence. I think that's all it really is. I think that's all the popular kids have is confidence, which is totally fine. I don't want to bag on anybody. Confidence is fine. When it crosses a line then it's like, “Dude, just chill out.” But I think all it is is how confident you are. Once I found that... That's what my character does, too. He's got to find his own confidence otherwise he's going to sit there and get killed. He's got to find the confidence to run and survive.

What separates "Freddy vs Jason" from the typical slasher movie?
Because it's both of them. You think about some crazy movie - if they put “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction” together and made a movie with all the characters together. How crazy would that be? So it's like getting two huge legendary horror creatures and putting them in one movie and what are they going to do with it? Honestly, it's insane. I would go see it even if I weren't in the movie. I'm dead serious.

I just saw a copy. I saw clips as they were editing it together. It's awesome.

What type of stunt work did you have to do?
There was a lot of flames, a lot of blood work. I had to do one where I got thrown up against the wall, basically like one of my final stunts. I had to hold a gun and shoot and run around and knock down stuff. Just pretty simple stuff. No jumping off buildings, no setting myself on fire. Nothing like that. My hair's still here (laughing).

What do you think about a sequel?
I think there's a chance actually. I haven't heard anything and I won't be in it, unless they want to go really crazy and I end up in someone's dream. But I think there's definitely room for it. If everybody really gets behind it and supports it like I think they are doing right now, it's definitely a possibility, which I'd love to see.

And you've got “The Girl Next Door” coming up next.
I play Eli, I play the best friend of Emile Hirsch, who is also a porn freak. Me, Paul Dano, and Emile Hirsch are sort of the trio or 'tripod' as they called us on the set. Emile's the one who goes for the girl next door. It's kind of a “Risky Business”-type thing. Did you see “Risky Business?”

Yes, of course.
You know Curtis Armstrong, the guy who plays Booger? That's sort of my character, the smartass kind of guy.

Did you copy any of his style?
A little bit. The director had me do a mix. He had me watch “Swingers” and “Made” and he wanted me to do a Vince Vaughn-ish/Curtis Armstrong from “Risky Business.”

That's quite a combo.
It's interesting, though. It's fun. I can't copy anybody, I want to do my own stuff, so it's me sort of feeling how I felt they felt, if that makes sense.
