Since her breakthrough role in "Girlfight," Michelle Rodriguez has made quite an impression in some high profile films including, most notably, "The Fast and the Furious."

In "Blue Crush," Michelle's character shapes surfboards, rides Jet Skis and surfs. When casting the role of 'Eden', director John Stockwell was hoping for an actress with natural athletic ability. With no prior knowledge of surfing, Michelle Rodriguez won over Stockwell because of her past gritty roles and her athletic prowess.

Michelle Rodriguez performs a lot of the actual Jet Ski work in the film. Notes producer Brian Grazer, "Michelle likes motors. She likes power. The motor is closer to the urban, hip-hop vibe that she's about. She gets on that Jet Ski and kicks ass. She's a tough girl!"

MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ (Eden)

Why is it that you seem to gravitate to the 'tough girl' roles? Are you interested in playing anyone softer?
They haven't shown me the brains in films. If it's not the brains, I try to take any little message that something has and blow it up as much as I possibly could and make it my own, and love my work. Because it is work, ultimately. You are trying to achieve a goal and you've got stepping-stones. I can't just walk up here and say, “I'm a star and I want this bit. I want you to write about this. Do it for me.” I've got to get there.

You seem to prefer the Jet Ski over surfing in this film. Can you tell me what's behind that choice?
(Laughing) Well I only had two weeks to learn how to surf. When you've only got two weeks and you're doing a months worth of dialogue, there's no way that after that month is over, I'm going to remember what I did in two weeks. It's like a fog. And then it's the middle of winter in Hawaii, I was like, “Look at the size of this stuff. You guys want me to go out there? What are you, nuts? Give me a Jet Ski.”

Did the three of you - Kate Bosworth, Sanoe Lake and yourself - actually live together during the filming?
We did. They are so down to earth. I think that there are two kinds of people in the world - those that know that they are going to die, and those that think that they are invincible. They are the type that know that they are going to die one day and I get along completely with people that are grounded like that.
