 EDDIE KAYE THOMAS (Finch)
What was it like working with the 1st Assistant Director from "American Pie," as the director this time around?
J.B. as a 1st A.D. is a completely, completely different human being than J.B. as the director. He was the best 1st A.D. I've ever seen. He was a hardass in a great sense of the word hardass. He always got the job done and he was just amazing. So I was kind of like, "Well, what's he going to be like as a director," because everybody knew him as "everybody shut up and let's do this," and then as a director he was just this fun-loving, laughing, relaxed guy who had the movie going on in one monitor and drag racing going on in the other - which is a good thing, by the way. He just had a complete metamorphosis, a 180 of a human being, and he's really, really good at both things.
You wear some interesting clothes in this film. Did your fellow cast members make fun of you?
We had a lot of fun - me and Alexandra Welker - picking out all that stuff. Especially from the first one, picking out all the sports jackets and the corduroy. It was great. It was actually pretty easy to get a laugh when you can just walk on set and everybody starts laughing at you. Even down to the pajamas. I have a scene where I'm wearing my pajamas, and I'm wearing what looks like a gay pride gown almost, it's like rainbow coalition kind of thing. And if they made fun of me, it was behind my back.
What are your upcoming projects?
Two independents and a movie coming out in April called "Stolen Summer," which was from Project Greenlight - the Ben Affleck/Matt Damon thing. It was a script they chose, a really great script. It's me, Aidan Quinn, Bonnie Hunt, and Brian Dennehy. Miramax is bringing that out in April, and I'm trying to make the next thing happen right now.
How was it working with a first time director on Project Greenlight?
He was amazing - Pete Jones. You wouldn't believe he was a first-time director and Bonnie was there, Aidan was there, helping him along, Brian Dennehy was there. He wrote this incredible script. They chose the script out of tens of thousands and they wouldn't choose a bad one when they had all those great ones. I think it's going to be a great movie.
