While at the World Premiere of the third movie in the "American Pie" series, "American Wedding," I had the opportunity to talk with "Freddy vs Jason's" Lochlyn Munro. Here's a preview of what fans can expect from the teaming of two horror movie villains:
LOCHLYN MUNRO
You have a couple of projects coming up. Can you talk a little about them?
I have Freddy vs Jason coming up in August. I did a smaller movie with Dennis Hopper and Asia Argento called The Keeper. We just finished that a couple of months ago.
I'm looking forward to Freddy because I wasn't sure when I first did the film, I've never done an actual real scary movie, so it turned out a lot better than I thought. Ronny Yu did a good job directing and we had a bigger budget.
You had a much bigger budget. So you play a sheriff?
Yes.
Did you do any law enforcement research?
Not really. I watched some of the other movies and got brushed up on what was going on with Jason Voorhees. But my character really is this young guy who is newer in the town and he doesn't really know the story of what went on. I kind of help the kids figure out what's going on - Jason Ritter, Monica Keena and Kelly Rowland. It's a fun piece for me. I got to play a little bit more of a mature role, which is good.
Were there any special effects in your scenes?
Well, yes but... (spoiler deleted - you have to see the movie). See how bad I am at this!
What's The Keeper?
The Keeper was a smaller thriller. Dennis Hopper and I play police officers. He ends up being kind of a serial kidnapper and a bit of a sociopath. He kidnaps Asia Argento. He's the sheriff of this town and he keeps her in this little cell because he thinks he's protecting her from walking the wrong path. It's really interesting. It's very dialogue-driven. There's myself, Asia Argento, Dennis Hopper, and a lady named Helen Shaver.
When can we expect to see The Keeper?
I don't know. We just finished it a couple of months ago and it's a smaller movie, so maybe the spring. It may do the festival route and that would be fine. I don't get the chance to do a lot of festivals.
