The creative minds behind the successful "Austin Powers" franchise never envisioned a trilogy of "Austin Powers" films, and Mike Myers had no intention of making a third film just to capitalize on the success of the first two. It was important to everyone involved to put out a quality product - or not put out a third "Austin Powers" at all.

Producer John Lyons says about Mike Myers, "He is committed to the material and believes he has a contract with the audience. He feels the audience comes with expectations and that it would be cynical to believe they'll see the movie simply because they liked the first two films. All of us want people to feel this one is bigger, better and funnier than the last two."

"I was blown away when the first two films found the audience they did," says creator, writer, producer and actor Mike Myers. "The only reason we decided to do a third one was to honor the fact that people followed us through one and two. We wrote it from a backwards approach and explained the origins of the worlds of Austin and Dr. Evil. It was strangely easy to connect all the stories. It was screenwriting meets Mad Libs."

In "Austin Powers in Goldmember," the sidekicks fans have come to know and love return - Seth Green, Michael York, Mindy Sterling, Verne Troyer and Robert Wagner - along with the addition of Michael Caine as Austin's father, Beyonce Knowles as Foxxy Cleopatra, and a whole slew of cameos the director prefers we don't mention (in case it's still a surprise to the few fans who haven't followed the casting process on the Internet).

Mike Myers joined his fellow cast members and special invited guests for the film's July 22, 2002 Premiere at the Universal Amphitheatre. Surrounded by an incredible assortment of celebrity "Austin Powers" fans, Myers graciously addressed questions from the media.

Now that "Austin Powers in Goldmember" is finished, will there be a fourth "Austin Powers?"
I don't know. I had such a great time. Halfway through the movie we started to have ideas. But, we didn't plan the second one and we certainly didn't plan a third one.

Did you ever dress like the characters in this film?
I had moon boots. I also had a pair of the furry boots and a pair of bell bottoms that actually ended up being square at the bottom.

How do you preserve the feel of the "Austin Powers" series while creating new gags?
That was the challenge. That's what we tried to do every day. We tried to keep the aspects that you all liked, and also keep things fresh. When we decided to do this third one, we decided that it had to be the best one yet. We worked really hard.

We always like to think of [the Austin Powers films] as a tribute to movies.

Which is your favorite character to play?
I think it's Dr. Evil because I've always wanted to play a bad guy.

MICHAEL YORK (Basil Exposition)

How is the third installment of "Austin Powers" different from the first two?
It's the same, but it's bigger and better. It had to be. You couldn't just deliver the same old, same old. People expect something different. I hope the fans enjoy the movie. It was fun to make.

Which genre of film do you prefer performing in?
I like doing everything. It's much more interesting that way than being confined to one [type of character]. That's awful; that's like being sent to prison.

DIANE MIZOTA (Fook Mi) & CARRIE ANN INABA (Fook Yu)

What did you think when you saw the names of your characters?
Diane: I thought it was hilarious.
Carrie: That's what I thought.
Diane: I just thought it was so funny.

You didn't have a "wait a minute - I don't want to do that" reaction?
Diane: Oh, no way. It's all in good fun. It's all in good humor.
Carrie: And "Austin Powers" makes fun of everybody equally so it's not humiliating at all.

Was there a lot of improv during your scenes?
Carrie: We did this one scene where Diane does a back bend and then I broke a chair in between my legs. There was so much improv going on that I didn't want the moment to end. It was hilarious.
Diane: We just keep going and going and going. You just have to be ready for whenever he's going to talk to people. That was the best part - getting to watch him at what he does best.

What's next for you two?
Diane: I host a show on G4, the video game network.
Carrie: I choreograph, and I just directed a short film. I'm trying to get it ready for the festivals next year. And, I'm getting married (flashing a huge smile along with a beautiful engagement ring) next summer.

Which do you prefer - acting or directing?
Carrie: I like them both. You know what? Directing helped me find more of an interest in acting. They really go hand-in-hand.

JOSH ZUCKERMAN (Young Dr. Evil)

How did it feel to become the young Dr. Evil?
I felt real naked without my hair. They really shaved it off. Nobody actually told me to, but I was definitely up for the challenge. They shaved off both sides first and I had this Robert DeNiro "Taxi Driver" cut, at first. Sort of like a Mohawk and then shaved on the sides.

What did the rest of the cast/crew think about your new look?
Everyone wouldn't stop looking at me. Maybe it was the light shining off of my head or something. I was actually looking forward to [having a] bald head. When it grows in a little bit, you have this baby fine hair. It's like a puppy dog - it's amazing.

Beyonce got a kick out of my contact lenses because they're extra blue. She kept on looking at my eyes.

How tough was it to get the Dr. Evil 'accent' down?
It was pretty tough. I went through this evolution of these different metamorphoses - all these different stages. First it was baby talk and then it finally ended up basically somewhat like Dr. Evil.

Did you ever find yourself using it when you weren't being filmed?
I did! I can't believe you caught that! I did find myself [doing that], completely. I'd start talking and then all of a sudden I'd do something. It was just burning in me to do it. It was just a reflex or something. I'd done it so often that I'd say a word the way that Dr. Evil would say it.

Do you still slip up?
That's why I stopped watching the films for a while. Whenever I do 'Dr. Evil' I'm going to tsk-tsk [myself].

What's next for you?
I'm doing a play here in Los Angeles called "Women and Wallace." It's eight women and myself.

What's it like to work with eight women and be the only male?
It's pretty cool, I must say (laughing). It's really going to be a great play. It's about Wallace and all his interactions with these other women in his life after his mother committed suicide when he was six years old. It's got incredible writing.

Is that where your heart is? With the stage?
I don't know if I can say that right now. I think I'd always go back to theatre. In my mind, they are so completely different, utterly different. I guess that the energies and all the different aspects of the theatre and film are two different realms. I don't know if I could say [I prefer] one or the other. I think I need a little more film experience.
