It's not often that cartoon characters kick butt at the box office but with the mostly live-action 2002 "Scooby-Doo," track records mean nothing. Despite mostly negative reviews, "Scooby-Doo" soundly captured first place at the box office on its opening weekend.
"Scooby-Doo's" box office take of $54.2 million (down from an initial estimate of $56 million) not only came out on top against competition such as "The Bourne Identity" ($27.5 million) and "Windtalkers" ($14.5 million), but is second only to "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me's" June opening weekend record. "Scooby's" $54.2 million is now the second biggest opening for a June release in box office history. Who would have thought that an animated dog and his four crime-fighting buddies (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini) would totally captivate audiences and haul in a load of box office bucks? Definitely not rival studios and most movie critics. Previous Articles |
