This Week's Selection: "BYE BYE LOVE"
"Donny, Dave and Vic are best friends. They have everything in common ... ex-wives, new girlfriends, and the kids for the weekend."
This week's pick - Bye Bye Love. Not your typical romance, this film does a great job of looking at love and romance, from a divorced dad's point of view. Paul Reiser, Matthew Modine, and Randy Quaid star as three divorced fathers, trying to cope with single life while dealing with their ex-spouses and children.Bye Bye Love is the story of the impact divorce has on everyone involved. Dave (Modine) is a womanizer who was apparently born without the ability to commit (monogamy is a four-letter word to Dave). Donny (Reiser) seems to be floundering when it comes to love. He still cares for his ex-wife, yet he's gradually falling in love with Dave's ex. The third musketeer is Vic (Quaid) - he's hostile toward his ex, and absolutely abhors her current boyfriend. Besides divorce, what do all three have in common? They all love their children and are having a tough time dealing with the new father/child relationships divorce has created.
The film tackles a serious subject with warmth, and a comedic touch. Eliza Dushku, Amber Benson, and Mae Whitman do an outstanding job of portraying the kids affected by divorce - rebelling, acting lost, and coping with their parents' separations. Janeane Garofalo as the blind date from hell, and Rob Reiner as a radio talk show psychologist, add wit and comic relief.
Released in 1995, this film is rated PG-13 for brief language and sensuality.
