More on "Scooby Doo"

"Scooby-Doo," based on the longest continually running cartoon series in television history, is set two years after Mystery Inc. closes its door due to ego problems amongst the Scooby gang. The story picks up as the four humans - and their four-legged buddy, Scooby - are reunited to investigate a series of paranormal incidents at the ultra-hip Spooky Island hot spot. Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Velma (Linda Cardellini), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby are forced to put aside their differences, work as a team, and crack the case.

The stars of "Scooby-Doo" joined special invited guests for the film's World Premiere at the historic Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Here's what the stars had to say about bringing the classic cartoon dog to the big screen.

MATTHEW LILLARD (Shaggy)

Did you watch many cartoons before tackling this role?
Everything I could get my hands on. If I ever have to see another episode of "Scooby-Doo," it will be way too soon.

You seem to be in a lot of movies with Freddie Prinze Jr.
It just seems to be working that way. Hollywood is funny; they like us together so we keep going back and doing it again and again.

Are you friends?
Oh yeah, he's a great guy.

Who is Shaggy?
Shaggy is a guy who likes Scooby Snacks and runs around with a dog who talks back to him.

Did your voice get a little hoarse from doing the character?
No, actually it didn't. I'm skilled.

Is it possible to go too over the top playing Shaggy?
No, it's a cartoon character. He always flows below the radar.

ISLA FISHER (Mary Jane)

So what's it like to be Shaggy's love interest in this film?
It's fun, it really is.

Your character gets introduced into an already established group that people know. Did you feel in the least bit nervous about being the 'new' character?
No. I knew that when I met the director, I knew instantly that he wouldn't let me make an idiot of himself.

Were you a fan of "Scooby-Doo" before getting the role?
Oh yeah. I grew up watching it in Australia.

How was it to work with the animated Scooby?
Well, he was animated and it was difficult to kind of relate to him - but it was great.

What's the best part of being Mary Jane?
The best part of making this movie was being part of an institution, something that has been in people's childhoods and is something that means a lot to a lot of people.
