TAWNY
What brings you out to the premiere of "2 Fast 2 Furious?"
I'm really excited to see Paul Walker (laughing).
Were you a fan of the first movie?
I loved the first movie, it was awesome. I'm very excited.
How do you describe your style of singing?
Actually I'm doing a lot of very, very hardcore R&B. But I'm a little white girl so I'm hoping that might be a good little niche for me. I'm excited about what the future has in store.
Is there any singer you model yourself after?
I love Mariah Carey's voice. Typical answer - who doesn't say that?
What's happening in the studio right now?
I'm working on my first album right now. It's a lot of work but I'm having a great time doing it. I'm writing my own music and I'm working with different producers so it's a lot of fun.
How long have you been singing?
I've been singing professionally for about 10 years, but I've been singing since I was 4. I'm 17 now.
How did you get into singing?
Actually my mom was into it when she was younger. She wasn't a singer; she was an actress and a model. One day we did a duet in church together. She was like, “Do you want to do this?” and I was like, “Sure.” It just kind of grew [from there]. I was never forced into it. It was my own decision; it was something I always wanted.
And getting back to the "2 Fast 2 Furious" theme: Being 17, do you have your license yet?
Yes, I do.
Do you drive fast?
Yes, I've gotten a ticket already. I'm a fast driver (laughing).

What's your current project?
We're working on it right now, getting with R. Kelly and just getting that first single so that we can get it cracking over here in West LA and all over the world. Everything is going great. Hopefully before spring.
What's R. Kelly doing to help you out?
We are co-writing on a single. We haven't started it yet but working with R. Kelly, his talent is off the roof so I know it's definitely going to be something hot.
So what will the style be when you collaborate with R. Kelly? Will you both throw out ideas?
It's definitely going to be a mixture of rap, R&B and reggae. Just something new. We're not going to stay with the new; we're going to come with the new. You know what I'm saying?
What do you think about singers who become actors?
I think that talent is talent. If it's in their blood, it's in their blood and they are going to do what they are going to do.
