CHRISTOPHER TITUS
I read that you're switching gears and working on a pilot for a drama series?
I did a pilot in Australia for NBC and I got a call that they did not pick it up. The Vice President called me and said they are actually going to reopen the show that I wrote for them this year. We're going to go talk to them about that in a week or two.
What's the plot of that show?
It's an action comedy - it's a one-hour action comedy. Right now there are all these hard-core dramas. There's either comedy or drama but nobody has done something like 48 Hours or Midnight Run on television and that's what this is.
Is it going to be a buddy comedy type thing?
Kind of. We all have a friend that you can't get rid of, that like borrows $200 and forgets he borrows it. Or stays at your house for '2 days' and it ends up being 7. And by the way, if you don't have that friend, you are that friend. So this guy comes back into my life. In high school we split - I became a cop, he became a criminal. We end up being bounty hunters by the end of it. I end up losing everything pretty much. Because of this guy I lose everything - my job, my wife, everything.
So you're writing it and starring in it?
Yes. They already bought the show once but we're having a meeting and talking about it again. We'll see what happens.
Anything else coming up?
I've got a movie circulating right now. And then I'm doing a lot of stand-up. I'm doing a lot of comedy.
Are you more passionate about comedy than acting?
You know, I like it all. Comedy keeps me grounded. So many people forget the audience. They forget that. The reason that Titus did so well was because I knew the audience and how far they would go. Even though the executives were like, It's too scary, I knew how far the audience would go because I'm in front of them 5 or 6 shows a week.
