ANGUS MACFADYEN (Conner)
What's it like to work on a film with predominately women?
It was a relief because it was just different. You know, everybody - the producer, the director, the actresses - was female and I can't really put my finger on why, but it was just different from anything else I've worked on. Maybe that was because we were working in the South, as well.
What do you think about the fact that some people may dismiss the film as a chick flick?
I don't like it because the film is deeper than that. That sort of makes it sound like it's a sentimental, hokey, sort of cheap American film, and it's got real issues about forgiveness in family and things. It reminds me of "Terms of Endearment" from 20 years ago, in terms of the levels it goes to and in terms of the levels of the performances of these actresses. This is a really good film.
Do you think that men will like the film as well as women?
Why not, you know? If not then God bless them and let them watch Mike Tyson beat the shit out of Lennox Lewis next Saturday.
What was it like working opposite Sandra Bullock?
Sandra has a great wit and I was kind of surprised because she would kind of hit below the belt, too. She's really sharp and witty and fast and furious. She kind of reminds me of Lucille Ball in some ways.

You play a younger version of James Garner's character. Did you study any of his films or watch "The Rockford Files?"
I feel kind of silly, but yes I did just because - oh why not? Actually I watched "The Children's Hour" - I don't know if you've seen that but it's a good movie from Lillian Hellman, she's great. [I watched] "Murphy's Romance." You don't realize that you grew up watching him. He's got a specific rhythm.
Any difficulties working on a film with predominantly women?
Everyone asks that and I don't know why there would be. It was great - no machismo competition. It was fantastic. I'm a broken record because I keep saying that this is what you want as an actor, to be a part of something that's this good or something that you care about. This cast, script, Callie, T-Bone Burnett, and Bob Dylan wrote a song for us, so I'm done, I don't have to do another movie.
