SHIRLEY KNIGHT (Necie)

What's the importance of having a group of friends like this? Do you personally have friends like the Ya-Yas?
I have several. I think that the most important thing about a woman friend is that there are things that you cannot talk to your husband about, there are things that you cannot talk to your mother and father about, there are things that you cannot talk to your children about, and the only people you can really share certain things with in secret, are your girlfriends.

You play the quiet, reserved Ya-Ya.
I do, I'm the sweet one.

Is that the role you play in your own real-life Ya-Ya group?
I don't know, probably not. My daughter would be able to tell you.

Bringing her daughter into the conversation:
SHIRLEY: She wants to know if I'm the quiet, sweet one in my group.
SHIRLEY's DAUGHTER: “No” (laughing, and without pausing to think about it).
SHIRLEY: I figured she'd say no.

Was there a lot of bonding on the set?
Yes, there was.

What was it like to work with such an amazing group of actors?
It was wonderful. Everybody was so nice. There was no 'diva' stuff; there was none of that. We became instant friends, which was fabulous.

FIONNULA FLANAGAN (Teensy)

What's the importance of having friends like the Ya-Yas?
It's very important. If you have friends like this in your life, you are very lucky. People who tell you really are, what you've really done, who will forgive you and who will help you move on - and who won't tolerate any nonsense from you, who will finally tell you what the bottom line is.

I understand there was a lot of bonding between the actors on the set.
Oh, bonding to beat the band. We're bonded forever.

You drive a gorgeous Rolls Royce Corniche in the film. Did they let you keep the car?
Are you joking (laughing)? I dropped a lot of hints. I said, “I was born to drive this car” and everybody said, “Yes, you were.” But it might be in my driveway tonight, who knows?
