"Pearl Harbor"
Box Office Bonanza
Pearl Harbor got the go-ahead while possessing the largest budget ever given the greenlight. The exact budget is rumored to be between $135-145 million for the finished product. Only time will tell if Pearl Harbor will turn a profit, but judging by early box office reports, Pearl Harbor is well on its way.
According to a press release issued by Touchstone Pictures/Jerry Bruckheimer Films on May 28th, Pearl Harbor had a record-breaking weekend. Playing to sell-out crowds, Pearl Harbor made box office history in its opening four-day holiday weekend frame (5/25-5/28) with an estimated gross of $75.1 million. That figure represents the biggest opening weekend ever for a non-sequel and the second-biggest opening tally of all time for any release. Adding to its impressive weekend accomplishments, the film had a sensational four-day screen average of $23,358 (at 3,214 theaters). Pearl Harbor has also established new Buena Vista records as the all-time top-grossing opener, surpassing studio hits such as The Lion King, Toy Story 2, and The Sixth Sense.
