Cameron Crowe's Mission

A major element of the 1996 romantic comedy, Jerry Maguire, was the "Mission Statement." Tom Cruise's character, Jerry, gave up his high-paying job with a top-level sports agency because he developed a conscience and composed a 27 page manifesto he called his "Mission Statement."

Rather than rely on a prop for such an integral part of the story, Cameron Crowe wrote a real 27 page "Mission Statement." Crowe felt that since he needed his actors to understand the importance of the "Mission Statement;" he needed to write out the actual text. The actual "Mission Statement" contains his dreams, his hopes for himself, and his hopes for his family. All of the random thoughts you'd normally never write out, but believe in or think about, are part of Crowe's finished "Mission Statement."
