Best known to television audiences for his appearances on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Steve Carell takes on the big screen with his role as Jim Carrey's rival, Evan Baxter.

Tell me what it's like working opposite Jim Carrey.
He's unbelievable. He's the kind of guy who you would think is always on, but he's not. He's really sensitive, nice, kind of quiet guy in person.
Was there a lot of improv in the scenes you did together?
Some. He tends to just let it fly so it's just a matter of trying to keep up with him.
And could you?
I tried (laughing). I haven't seen any of it, so we'll see.
Was there ever a time when you tried to lead Jim Carrey?
Never! No way, no. He's a god, I would never approach that.
Overall, how would you describe this film to audiences?
It's going to be a laugh riot. From the script and from what I've seen, it looks really fun.

What was it like on the set with Jim Carrey?
Well, I wish that he could be a little bit bigger with the facial expressions. Not that I would ever direct him in any way (laughing). It was a lot of fun. He's a very mellow guy really, a serious guy, and a funny guy.
What was the process like working off of him?
You've got to be on your toes. We did a lot of improvisation, which I love. The script is hilarious, [it's written by] Steve Oederkirk, but they were kind of loose with letting things be funny, so it was a good time.
Was there ever a time when you couldn't keep up with what Jim Carrey was doing, or were you right there with him?
Well I ate a lot of candy so I was able to keep pace pretty well. The Milk Duds, that kept me going (laughing).
How would you describe this film to audiences?
It's Tom Shadyac directing so it's going to be a kind of return to Jim's kind of comedy. But it's a very, very bright script. Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman, it's a great cast of supporting actors who are really funny people acting in it.
Is it one of those select films that will be a hit with all age groups?
Yes. It's PG and the kids are going to love it and the parents are going to love it, which is kind of refreshing. You can go to something with your kids and still really like it, you really laugh.
Do you worry about it coming out at this time, with all these big action blockbusters like X2 and The Matrix Reloaded?
Well they space them pretty good. The Matrix is just out and I think it's kind of paced that then there's a comedy. I think the film is going to do great because it's hilarious.
