"Father of the Bride" Revisited

Elizabeth Taylor sparkled as the young bride in the original 1950 version of "Father of the Bride," directed by Vicente Minelli. She herself was a brand-new bride when this movie premiered; having wed Nicky Hilton just two days before "Father of the Bride" hit theatres. The mother of the bride was Joan Bennett, in a role later taken on by Diane Keaton. Spencer Tracy brought a light comic touch to the original father, a role Steve Martin made his own in the 1991 version.

But who played the original brother of the bride, the role played by Kieran Culkin in the remake? None other than the man who would go on to make a cameo appearance in the 1991 release, Tom Irish. Tom Irish portrayed Elizabeth Taylor's younger brother Ben in 1950, and in 1991 he again portrayed Ben Banks, but this time he was the bride's great uncle.
