ZOE CLARKE-WILLIAMS (Director)

Did you relate to this film?
I just think it's not only fun to work with a new genre, but to be able to record what the behaviors are, the textures of being 20 and a woman and being alive in this world. These girls were so much fun to work with that I really had a good time.

So the set was fun?
Yeah, everybody was really copasetic and got along really well. It was sort of like a whole bunch of sisters.

What interested you in this script in the first place?
Just because I've kind of been the rich girl in the poor society and I've been the poor girl in the rich society. I could relate to both characters.

You've done acting, directing, writing etc. What's your favorite?
Directing and writing. I've only done little cameos so that doesn't count.

What's next for you?
A movie called "The First Stone" that John Briley - the man who won the Academy Award for "Gandhi" - wrote. He also adapted "Cry Freedom." It's about a young woman who goes undercover in Saudi Arabia, into the harems.

That's far different from "New Best Friend."
Absolutely.

Do you like projects that are that far apart?
Yes, I like to push myself in different directions. I find filmmaking such an interesting arena. You research so many different topics that you wouldn't ordinarily explore in your own life. I think it's really great, you learn about lots of different things.
