After having directed such films as "The Big Chill," "Silverado," "Mumford," and "Body Heat," "Dreamcatcher" marks Lawrence Kasdan's first effort at directing a film that relies heavily on special effects.

LAWRENCE KASDAN (Director)

Could you tell me about working on such a big special effects movie? It's not something you usually do.
It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time. It was really fun. I was working with ILM, the best effects house in the world. I'd been around there when I was writing movies for George Lucas and I'd always wanted to use them, and they just did a great job. I told them that the effects had to be really realistic.

It's very important for the four main characters to have good chemistry. What did you do to prepare your actors?
You get really good actors and then you rehearse and have them bond during that period. You agree on what kind of movie you are making and if they're really good actors, it always works out.

Are you strict with your actors or do you allow them to find their own characters?
I wanted them to find their own characters. All I do is write a script and try to follow the line of the script. Good actors always want to serve the script so then what they bring to it is what I'm looking for.
