Best known in America for his starring role in Steven Spielberg's "Band of Brothers," in "Dreamcatcher" Damian Lewis has the daunting task of playing a character who is possessed by an alien, without the use of special make-up or visual effects.

On casting Lewis, "Dreamcatcher" director Lawrence Kasdan said, "Damian Lewis is an extraordinary young British actor. He's very magnetic, charismatic and soulful. I was just wildly taken with him, and could see that he played an American very easily; I was just knocked out by his abilities."

DAMIAN LEWIS ('Jonesy')

How difficult was it playing multiple characters who use two distinct voices?
It was quite tricky but it was fun to do. It's good to be busy on a film set because there is a lot of sitting around, so if you've got two roles to play at one time, then that's great to do.

We chose two different accents, not just two different voices, so it is very clear when the alien is speaking and when my initial character is speaking - because I don't actually transform physically in any way.

Did you ever confuse yourself with which accent/voice to use in a scene?
Yeah, I had a dialect coach who was helping me with my American accent, and actually at the end, he had to help me with my English accent because I couldn't get back to a decent English accent after speaking in an American one for so long (laughing).

What was it like working on such an intense special effects film?
Great fun. Actually we didn't have all that much blue screen [work]. People seem to think that you must spend the whole time in front of a blue screen, and there wasn't really all that much. There were a lot of rubbery, gooey puppets - slimy, horrible things that they dangled in front of us. We acted with that quite a lot.

Your character comes face to face with the alien 'Mr. Grey.' What was used in place of that effect?
Mr. Grey was actually just Timothy Olyphant. That way, I could actually imagine what an ugly alien would actually look like (laughing).

Does he know that you say this about him?
I say it every day. Every day at the press junket we've been saying something about each other.

Are you a fan of Stephen King?
I'm a great fan of Stephen King's movies. I've seen all of his movies, but I haven't read a single one of his books.

Why is it that audiences love horror movies?
I think people like to be scared. I think people like tension and suspense in a movie. I think, also, the best horror movies are a metaphor for whatever is going on in the world at any one time; there's an obvious metaphor for right now. And also for one's personal and individual paranoias and neuroses, it really explores all those things.
