After seeing hundreds of young actors interested in the role of newspaper intern, Zack, director Alan Parker selected Gabriel Mann ("The Bourne Identity"). On casting Mann, Parker said, "Gabe has a lovely, ingenous quality - always likeable whilst playing a character far too smart for his own good."

Can you talk about your character in "The Life of David Gale?"
I play Zack. He's an intern at the news magazine where Kate Winslet's character, Bitsey, works. I work with Kate and I get assigned to this case to record the last days of David Gale's life before he's put to death. So we go down to Texas to cover the story and Kate wants nothing to do with me. She wants no part of my presence. She absolutely hates me in the film. But I'm so excited to cover this project and I'm just as ambitious as she is.

What kind of reaction do you expect from audiences?
They should expect to have a strong reaction one way or the other. I think you kind of hope for people to gush over movies, but I think the opposite way is great sometimes, too. I'd rather have a movie that you're angry about and that you're talking about the next day, than something you forget about when the popcorn goes into the trash.

How is the “Exorcist: The Beginning” shoot going?
I've been working with green screens, up on rigs and on wires, and flying through the air. I play the priest so I'm in the collar for most of the film and a lot of stuff happens. It's been exhausting.

Has anything surprised you about it?
Everything surprised me about it. It was nothing that I expected and everything that I hoped it would be. It's just phenomenal.
