In "The Life of David Gale," Laura Linney plays Professor Constance Harraway, a very vocal presence in the Texas anti-death penalty group, DeathWatch. Her friendship with David Gale (Kevin Spacey) is seen through flashbacks as Gale sits on death row awaiting his execution.
As one of the lead characters in the center of a film that revolves around a highly controversial subject, Linney portrays Constance Harraway as a strong, passionate woman determined to make a stand despite overwhelming odds and amidst personal hardship.
The actress spoke about her character, Kevin Spacey, and the death penalty while at the film's February 18, 2003 special Los Angeles screening:
LAURA LINNEY ('Constance')
How do you prepare yourself mentally for a role this tough?
And working opposite Kevin Spacey?
What did you like the most about your character?
How do you feel about the death penalty?
You're in a very disturbing scene in which your character is naked. Was that a body double?
